What’s a great way for an mmo developer to force their subscribers to waste their time running around the map and inevitably getting pissed off? Timed quests.
The first timed quest that I have ever encountered in EQOA was the agility CM stat quest in Hodstock and Temby. Basically you have to run around the zone and talk to different characters within a certain time span. Thankfully, one of our former returners posted a guide on where each of these mobs spawns.
There are 4 running challenges. They all take between 13 and 15 minutes. Thus at your fastest, you might complete them in an hour. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t find one of the mobs the first time and the second time I failed to figure out how to spawn the questgiver to complete the run. About an hour was wasted right there.
To be fair, the quests are mindless and maybe that’s why I hate them so much. MMO designers have every right to put something like this in a game because it’s probably very easy to implement and will guarantee extended play from its subscribers.
